Durham, NC (December 17, 2015) – Open Invention Network (OIN), the largest patent non-aggression community in history, announced today that Indiegogo has joined OIN as a licensee. Built primarily on open source technology, Indiegogo is an international crowdfunding website that was one of the first sites to offer crowdfunding. Indiegogo’s participation in OIN aligns it with another organization that seeks to empower innovators by sharing with and drawing upon the resources of a distributed global network.

“We are pleased that Indiegogo has joined the OIN community,” said Keith Bergelt, CEO of Open Invention Network. “Indiegogo is working to ensure that entrepreneurs have access to sufficient capital to be freed to focus on innovating, similar to how OIN addresses key patent issues and facilitates software developer, vendor, and user innovation.”

“Indiegogo has democratized the way new ideas are discovered and funded, by enabling entrepreneurial projects to move quickly from concept to market,” said Eric Schell, Co-founder of Indiegogo. “In alignment with our mission, we are excited to back open source software as a key driver for the democratization of innovation. By joining OIN, we are showing our support for Linux and open source software, and we would encourage those that are like-minded to also join OIN’s community.”

OIN’s community practices patent non-aggression in core Linux and adjacent open source technologies by cross-licensing Linux System patents to one another on a royalty-free basis. Patents owned by Open Invention Network are similarly licensed royalty-free to any organization that agrees not to assert its patents against the Linux System. The OIN license can be signed online at www.j-oin.com.
