OIN 2.0: Why Protect Your Open Source Investments?

Every organization depends on Open Source. Every organization faces patent risk. A single patent dispute can cost millions, delay product roadmaps & distract valuable engineering resources.

OIN 2.0 helps reduce that risk through one of the world’s largest patent cross-license communities — covering more than 3 million patents and 5,100+ Open Source technologies.

Protect innovation. Reduce risk. Strengthen your Open Source strategy.

OIN Releases New Platform Scanning Tool

We’ve released a new Open Source platform scanning tool, licensed under Apache 2.0 and available on GitHub. It helps organizations compare the Open Source packages they use with the packages covered by OIN’s Linux System definition.

With the tool, organizations can:

  • Help shape the future of patent protection by identifying packages & applications they believe should be considered for inclusion in future Linux System definitions.
  • Better understand potential patent risk by seeing which Open Source components fall inside — or outside — the current Linux System definition, helping inform ongoing Linux System nominations.
  • Evaluate how participation in the OIN community can support an IP strategy that reflects operational and technological reliance on Open Source.

TABLE 13 EXPANDED COVERAGE

Are Your Open Source Technologies Covered?

Your organization relies on Open Source technologies every day — but are they included within Linux System Table 13, which is the enhanced coverage available through OIN 2.0 membership? You can now export a complete list of the 5,181 Open Source Software packages, applications & programming languages currently covered to quickly verify whether the technologies your organization depends on are included. It’s an easy way to evaluate coverage and identify opportunities to strengthen your Open Source strategy.
