EVENT RECAP

Where Intellectual Property Meets Open Source Innovation

On October 19, 2026, Open Invention Network (OIN) brought together global enterprise executives, legal strategists, technology leaders, and Open Source advocates at Hayes Mansion in San Jose, California, for the inaugural OIN Connect.

Co-located with the Linux Foundation Legal Summit, the event provided a unique forum for candid conversations about one of today’s most important challenges:

How do we continue to innovate while minimizing intellectual property risk in an era of exponential Open Source adoption?

Throughout the day, distinguished keynote speakers, industry experts, and community leaders shared insights on the shifting patent landscape, emerging legal challenges, collaborative defense strategies, and the future of Open Source protection.

Beyond the presentations and panel discussions, OIN Connect created opportunities for meaningful conversations, new professional relationships, and stronger collaboration across the Open Source ecosystem.

CONNECTIONS & COMMUNITY

Moments from OIN Connect 2026

One of the most meaningful outcomes of OIN Connect 2026 extended beyond the formal agenda. The event brought together professionals working at the intersection of Open Source, intellectual property, and risk mitigation. Throughout the day, engaging presentations, panel discussions, and informal conversations sparked new ideas, strengthened relationships, and reinforced the value of collaboration.

The connections continued into the evening with a dinner co-hosted by Open Invention Network and the Linux Foundation, along with a wine tasting and cocktail reception featuring four wineries from California’s Santa Cruz region: Alfaro Family Vineyards, Farm Cottage Wines, Lester Estate Wines, and Sante Arcangeli Family Wines. From insightful discussions to shared experiences, these moments captured the spirit of OIN Connect — bringing people together to strengthen the Open Source community.
