The OIN Journey | Discover more from our 6-part video series
Open Source has entered a new era & the technologies driving that evolution extend far beyond Linux. Our new OIN Journey video series explores how OIN 2.0 is expanding patent protection across the technologies shaping the future, including AI, Kubernetes, cloud computing, cybersecurity, and automotive innovation.

Is OIN 2.0 Part of Your IP & Open Source Strategy?
Open Source is no longer simply a development model. It is a foundational infrastructure for AI, security, cloud, robotics and enterprise technology—making IP strategy increasingly inseparable from Open Source strategy.
As Open Source usage and functionality expands, organizations need to think beyond adoption to how they manage risk, protect innovation and enable collaboration at scale. That’s the strategic role that OIN 2.0 membership is designed to play.

GitHub | Map Your Open Source Footprint to OIN Coverage
OIN’s platform scanning tool available on GitHub under Apache 2.0 compares your Open Source Software usage with the Linux System definition, helping assess opportunities for patent risk clearance, inform future nominations and align your OIN participation with your IP strategy.
THE OIN COMMUNITY

Novamira Commits to OIN 2.0, Safeguarding Open Source Workflows.
As AI adoption accelerates across open-source web ecosystems, Novamira has joined OIN 2.0. Serving as a vendor-neutral bridge connecting autonomous AI coding agents directly to WordPress workflows, Novamira’s action reinforces the shared patent cross-license framework supporting modern infrastructures, AI Journal reports.

TIER IV Joins OIN 2.0 for Patent Safety in Open Source.
Automotive World writes that Tier IV’s move to join OIN reinforces the growing importance of patent protection in the autonomous vehicle industry. A growing number of automakers, suppliers & semiconductor companies depend on Open Source such as TIER IV’s Autoware, which is built on Linux and the Robot Operating System (ROS), both covered by OIN’s Linux System definition.
