May 19, 2026 — OIN is the world’s largest & only community 100% dedicated to protecting Open Source Software (OSS) from patent risks — including those posed by Non-Practicing Entities (NPEs). The organization fosters an environment where innovation can thrive and has been active for over 20 years.
Now, OIN is preserving more than 900 million lines of source code that makes up OIN 2.0’s Linux System, which safeguards over 5,100 Open Source technologies, including software, applications & languages. The Linux System defines the scope of the OIN patent cross-license whereby over 4,100 worldwide members agree to not sue each other on their patents that are cross-licensed. The OIN 2.0 Linux System source code that is archivable is now comprehensively preserved at Software Heritage.
For OIN 2.0 Linux System packages, a link to the associated source code archived at Software Heritage may be found at www.openinventionnetwork.com/linux-system within the Lists of Packages, Table 13, by clicking on the package name. Business Insider reports.
