Toyota joined OIN in order to safeguard its growing use of Open Source and Linux-based technologies. By participating in OIN’s patent non-aggression community, Toyota gains protection against patent litigation risks for core Open Source software — giving it the freedom to build, collaborate, and innovate without fear of patent claims blocking its use of widely shared technologies.

This aligns with Toyota’s broader commitment to embracing Open Source software in its development, supply-chain, and mobility-services platforms, supporting innovation and reducing legal and licensing uncertainty.

As part of an on-going series, we are interviewing OIN members who are sharing their stories about why they joined OIN, as well as the situation leading them to our community, the solution and the positive impact OIN participation has had on their business.

We welcome your participation. If your business is interested, please reach out to marketing@openinventionnetwork.com.
