Peter Mærsk Møller came from a long line of sailors, starting as a cabin boy in 1850, becoming a ship mater in 1855 and a ship owner in 1862. When his ship was wrecked off the coast of Scotland in 1883, Peter Mærsk Møller acquired and established Steamship Company Laura in 1886. A.P. Moller – Maersk was born in 1904. The initials A.P. were for Anna, Peter’s wife, and Peter. Today, A.P. Moller – Maersk is the 2nd-largest container shipping company, operating in 130 countries and with customers in most industries. Its ocean fleet includes more than 700 container vessels, covering air, reefer, and special cargo services. Its logistics & services provides end-to-end supply chain solutions, including cold chain logistics, eCommerce fulfillment and customs services. It operates 54 terminals across 29 countries under the APM Terminals brand and owns warehouses at over 500 locations.
