Based in Tokyo, Japan, Renesas Electronics designs, manufactures, sells, and services semiconductor products from facilities in Asia, Europe, Japan, the Middle East & North America. The name “Renesas” is a contraction for “Renaissance Semiconductor for Advanced Solutions.”  The company started as Renesas Technology in 2002 after the merger of the semiconductor divisions of Hitachi & Mitsubishi Electric, excluding their Dynamic Random Access Memory (DRAM) businesses. In 2010, Renesas Technology merged with NEC Electronics to form the current company & adopted its present name.
