February 17, 2021 – Stanford University students Evan Spiegel, Bobby Murphy and Reggie Brown started Snapchat Inc. in September 2011. Today, they all hold executive roles with the company, which serves over 230 million users in more than 20 countries. It predicts its image and video messaging app will reach 356 million users, or 10.4% of all social media users, by 2023.
The Santa Monica, CA-based company rebranded in September 2016 to Snap Inc. in order to include its latest product Spectacles under a single company. Spectacles — a wearable camera with a pair of smart glasses that connect to the user’s Snapchat account and records videos in a circular video format — has sold over 150,000 since its introduction to the market. Snap also developed Bitmoji, as well as owns and maintains a number of other technological products and services. The company’s international headquarters are in Soho, London.
