In 2024 there was continued increase in the adoption of Open Source across the globe, which fueled the growth of OIN’s Open Source patent protection community. In August of this year, OIN updated its Linux System definition with over 800 new packages to now cover over 4,500 Open Source packages in total from patent risk. At the same time, we had many notable companies join our network, with substantial momentum in the financial services, industrial, and branded sectors. In addition, while community growth was strong worldwide, we had several significant Chinese companies (including Anker, China Mobile, and China Telecom) join OIN.
