IBM — a OIN founding member — has spun off its Global Technology Services (GTS) into Kyndryl — a separate publicly-traded company. Last year Kyndryl formed a landmark partnership with Microsoft — an OIN member since 2018‚ and was Named “Best of 2021” from the Constellation Research 2021 Enterprise Awards, recognizing “it’s still early days for digital transformation and cloud migrations for the world’s largest companies, and there are signs that stand-alone Kyndryl will be better positioned as an agile competitor and proactive partner in pursuit of the $500 billion managed services market.” The new company creates Information Technology (IT) systems and services across diverse industries including applications, data, Artificial Intelligence (AI), cloud-enabled hybrid services, Open Source platforms, 5G-enabled edge, and software-designed networking (SDN), security, and resiliency. Launched as Kendryl in November 2021, the company has 270,000 employees and 4,600 clients in 115 countries, with a backlog of $60 billion.
