OIN’s Linux System expansion garners headlines across the county and as far away as Russia as the OIN expands the largest multilateral cross license in history. This 9th update now protects 3,730 Open Source Software (OSS) packages against patent attacks for OIN’s 3,600+ members.
Effective March 31, 2022, the Linux System expansion includes 337 new software packages in growing technology areas such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Embedded Libraries, Hardware Design and Container Management Tools.

DuPont will acquire Rogers Corporation — an OIN community member since 2019 & one of the oldest public companies in America with more than 180 years of materials science experience — as part of its Electronics & Industrial Business Units. Ed Meintzer
CFO & Director of Communications
For a finance professional and former decorated Navy officer, Ed is laid back with a good sense of humor. Born in Long Beach, CA, he has travelled the world, has an affinity for the mountains and lives in Greenville, SC. To the great chagrin of his wife and two daughters, he often recites quotes from Forrest Gump, but when it comes to books, he likes thrillers such as the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series, or amusing pieces like Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim. Friends describe him as reliable, well-meaning and trustworthy.
Ed’s father and both of his grandfathers were in the U.S. Navy, so he pursued a Navy ROTC scholarship that helped him receive a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from Northwestern University. He became a nuclear submarine officer rising to the rank of a Lieutenant after serving stints in Pearl Harbor as the Main Propulsion Assistant on board the U.S.S. Birmingham and was later stationed at the Pentagon as an Export Licensing Officer for the Defense Threat Reduction Agency. When he decided to leave the Navy, he shifted gears and earned his MBA in Finance and International Business from the University of Maryland.
Among his many finance career highlights, Ed worked with Wachovia Securities where he closed 17 financing transactions, raised $12+ billion in aggregate capital, supported business transactions from leveraged buyouts and recapitalizations to Mergers & Acquisitions (M&As). He moved onto 2 award-winning investment funds as the Executive Managing Director and Head of Business Development where he helped raise over $300 million in additional funding. Both funds were the 1st of their kind to offer asset-based loans and credit enhancements with Intellectual Property (IP) for collateral, supported by patents, trademarks and copyrights.
“In the early 2000s, Open Source was the miracle that allowed me to go to SourceForge and download great software for free,” he says. “After years of working with the Open Source community, I now understand the true miracle of Open Source is in the collaborative development that it engenders. By making source code available to everyone to modify and share, we can collectively make advancements that might not otherwise be possible. It is the genius and strength of Open Source, and why it has taken over the world as the primary software development model.”
Outside of work, Ed enjoys time with his family, and stays active by playing and watching his girls play soccer, running, and biking.
