Open Source robotic fish collects microplastics from lakes in the United Kingdom. A robotic fish — named Gilbert, built on Open Source & the size of a salmon — includes a flooded head, watertight tail and fine mesh filters that keeps microplastics inside its container as it swims. A turning point in United States legislation, the Securing Open Source Software Act of 2022, addresses the Top 3 concerns around Open Source Security — vulnerability detection and disclosure, Software Bill of Materials (SBOMs) & Open Source Program Offices (OSPOs).
